Cabarita Boardriders Interclub Events
Jim Beam Surf-tag -Saturday February
17th @ Duranbah
Caba’s team was Ben Johnson, Robbie Johnson, Sasha
Stocker, Gary Cruickshank and Powelly. (Timmy and Jens were
in Hawaii, Chippa was in Coffs Harbour)
Our first round saw us up against Kirra and Burleigh –
we held our breath! Robbie showed us that he still “had
it” and Gary got us back into the box first, which
gave us 4 bonus points. The score after round 1 was: Burleigh
68.9, Kirra 64.7 and Caba on 66.0!!
In the next round we were against Burleigh, LeBa and Noosa
it was gonna be a tight finish but after the 50 minutes
LeBa was first with 93.2 and Caba second on 79.3! We’re
in the final!!
The final was a real fight we had Snapper, North End and
Le Ba our wheels started to fall off and we got a 4th place
but that’s ok, the boyz still qualified to go to Sydney
for the National Surftag Finals at Curl Curl on the 2nd
March – good luck fellas.
Kirra Team Challenge February 23,24
& 25 2007 @ Duranbah
Caba’s team was:
Juniors - Dylan Cram
- Chippa
Open - Robbie Johnson
- Ben Johnson
- Powelly
- Sasha Stocker
- Tim Chalmers
- Jens Spence
Caba was second heat of the comp. with young Dylan Cram
surfing against teams from the Surfrider Foundation, Kirra
2 and Werri Beach – he was our first win we’re
off to a great start.
Chippa was up next – against teams from Coolum, Kirra
2 and Sandon Point. Yep our second win was on the board!
Robbie went out for our first open division, against Warriewood,
MNM and Werrie Beach. He surfed well and just missed out
on 2nd.
Ben Johno was the last heat of the day, we’d gone
through every season this day, but finally the sun came
out. He was up against North Avalon, Seaford and Bondi,
he had a cracker and notched up win number 3 for Caba.
Saturday saw Powelly go at it against Scarborough, Umina
and Coffs Harbour’s Jayke Sharpe (a red hot pro-junior)
Powelly’s first wave was a cracker, with and 8.2 barrell
and earning him the nickname of ‘snorkel’ from
Tappa – he ended up with second place.
Sasha went out late Saturday arvo against Le-Ba, Catherine
Hill and Sandon Point he was dead set unlucky just didn’t
get the waves and came in 4th.
Sunday – we were all anxious Timmy andJensey had
just got off the plane midnight Saturday, from Hawaii. But
true to form they were there bright and early Tim went for
a free surf (to wake up!!) and came in with his board in
two pieces (bring out the back-up) He was against Surfrider
Foundation, Kirra 2 and Werri Beach – and win number
4 was also notched up.
About 2 hours later Jens went out (any later and he would
have been off with the fairies!! Jet lag was hitting hard)
We didn’t know who he was against due to misprints
on heat draw but he surfed great and scored 2nd.
So, all in all Caba had 4 wins, 2 seconds, 1 third and
1 fourth, which gave us a total of 25 points and secured
us with 8th place in the event and a free entry into next
years comp. (valued at $450.00)
KINGY V’S CABA –THE
ASHES - AUGUST 20TH 2006
Creating
the ashes burning the shirts
Larger Image
Sunday August 20th –it was the day Caba was set to
win the “ASHES” Kingscliff main beach was the
venue and was pumping 2-3 feet feeling down the point, so
the Kingy boyz were super confident!!! (big mistake!)
Caba used “president” Chicka King to go first
up and get us off to a flying start, but it all fell to
bits when Kingy’s Jarrod White “Dog” just
went ballistic on his first wave with a savage back hand
attack!
KINGY 1 – CABA NIL
Kingy was confident But Caba was determined!
The next match Caba started with Jaco STeyne, a young ripper
from south africa, Jaco’s two waves were excellent
with smooth top turns resulting in big scores, after this
Kingy was self destructing and were left struggling.
So, waves kept pumping and surfers were ripping, by the
arvo it was:
CABA 4 – KINGY 3
With one match left – the girls – everyone was
ready for a close one, but the first wave was a cracker
the longest of the day with serious top turns and floaters
yeah it was our Brittani opening up with an 8.5 after that
Shannon Parker got a 5.5 and the ASHES were ours!
At the BBQ the ashes were formed – a shirt from both
clubs- and placed into the trophy, history was made!!!
The ‘CABA CREW’ surfed well all day and a big
thanks to Kingy for hosting the event, we also can’t
do these events without the help from the parents and judges
so a big thanks to you all.
Just watch out next year.
